Black Dragon - Landscape Concept 001
contract summary
This contract is for the design some levels within Unity3D which allows for the achievement of certain concepts within this visualization environment. Key areas of exploration are;
to see a large geographic region imported into Unity3D, stylized using the attached images as a visual guide, and with the total size limits of what this project could need being explored. As a result of the unknown visualization challenges of differently sized territories, we will focus on the following regions as examples;
Squamish (city)
British Columbia (province)
Canada (country)
Earth (planet)
additional challenges that need to be thought about are how GPS coordinates best integrate to the coordinate system within Unity3D. This will help define how map and asset positional data is brought into the Unity3D and displayed properly.
design aesthetic
Included here are some visual references that help you see our vision for the design aesthetic that is being pursued. Visually, the goal is to have landscapes at all zoom levels share a similar monochromatic palette. This is in order to highlight specific data within this theatre, brought into the environment to show the position of various elements.
Specifically shown here is the height map being converted to a matte white/grey textured surface upon which the data within our system will be displayed.
The infrastructure data that will be superimposed in the fashion seen above will be roads, rail, power lines, structures.
Other symbology will be used to show positioning of other important assets on the landscape.
An alternate colour scheme is to evaluate the visibility of the superimposed data on a “dark mode” landscape.
One additional visualization to explore is some form of data expression that is shown on top of the landscape details. As a form of informational data, the size and colour of these representations will express values that are important to the client, and this visual style may prove to be the best to quickly convey where attention is needed across a landscape.
TBD but here is a concept of the above ground visualization to be explored. This will be based on GIS data related to existing vegetation, statistical events, air pollution… it can be quite broad but it would be good to establish a conceptual method of displaying that data and this can be honed in future contracts.
deliverables
All project files needed to open the project locally will need to be supplied. There should be either 1 map that has the 3 levels of zoom navigable, or 3 maps at each of the zoom levels described.
The aesthetic of the base maps should be utilizing a white for land, grey/blue for water and a similar matte monotone look tot he images included above.
The local level map should be duplicated and the colour scheme changed to reflect a ‘dark mode’ colour palette.
The last deliverable is the ‘above ground level’ data representation and it’s something that will have to be approached in a manner which you feel best accommodates the goals of the data representation. We’ll need to discuss it further so that the aesthetic which ends up being used to express the data is suitable for the design while delivering the appropriate visual weighting inside the landscapes. Let’s label this TBD :)
data sources
Some of the data has been collected, but more will need to be sourced. We’ll discuss what is needed for you to achieve the deliverable and you’ll receive support in acquiring the appropriate data once you’ve defined the format that is most appropriate.
next steps
This page is designed to give a general concept of where we are headed, and should provide a good basis for a conversation about how much time it will take to build these first files for our project. There are many more steps in the future, and each will be defined and contracted out until we have inhouse developers, but in the interim there will be a stream of these contracts issued.
Please circle back to andrew@blackdragon.ai to ask questions, discuss the goals of this contract, how much time you will need to complete the contract, what your hourly rate is, and what your schedule looks like so we can develop a timeline together.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
